Dear Shumate Parents, Students, and Community,
On behalf of the entire Shumate staff, we welcome you to the beginning of the 2021-2022 School Year! We look forward to working with you to ensure that your child learns and grows academically, socially and emotionally. We are committed to challenging your child and ensuring that their educational experiences at Shumate are engaging, meaningful and relevant to future successes.
I’m so eager to begin my fourth year as Shumate’s principal, and eighth year serving as a principal within the Gibraltar School District. Prior to my time in Gibraltar, I spent fifteen years teaching fifth through eight grade students in Livonia Public Schools.
I consider myself extremely fortunate in that I had parents, teachers, coaches and administrators during my K-12 experiences that helped me build a strong foundation as a lifelong learner. I will continue to commit myself to fostering a similar passion for learning among our students.
On a personal note, I am the proud father of two wonderful school aged children. With every decision I make as an educator, they continually serve to remind me of the opportunities I would want afforded to my own children.
As principal, my door is always open, and I welcome your input. I believe that high quality education can only be fully realized through a genuine partnership. During the course of this year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide the students of Shumate with the best possible learning opportunities in order to prepare them to be active, engaged and informed citizens, ready to master the challenges of the twenty-first century. Please feel free to stop in to introduce yourself and discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas. Together we can make this a wonderful year for the students and the entire learning community of Shumate! I look forward to a rewarding partnership with all of you.
Sincerely,
Principal
