On Earth Day this year, students at Shumate Middle School took meaningful action to protect the environment right in their own backyard. While staying on school grounds, these young environmentalists engaged in a variety of activities that not only educated them about environmental issues but also empowered them to make a positive impact.
One of the highlights of the day was when students worked together with their science class to pick up litter and properly dispose of it. This not only made the school grounds cleaner and more pleasant but also raised awareness about the importance of reducing waste and keeping our environment clean.
Additionally, there was a tree planting initiative led by high school students from the National Honor Society, with support from student council and the National Junior Honor Society. These older students guided their younger peers in planting native trees on the school grounds. The activity not only beautified the campus but also taught the middle schoolers about the critical role trees play in mitigating climate change and supporting local ecosystems.
The day's events were a testament to the commitment of our Seahawks to environmental stewardship. By taking action to protect the environment, these students demonstrated that they are not just the leaders of tomorrow but also the stewards of our planet today. Their efforts serve as an inspiration to us all to do our part to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.
