Gibraltar Middle College

The Gibraltar Middle College (GSDMC) is a 5 year program of study where students earn up to 60 college credits and one of the following: an associate degree, a professional certification, a MEMCA certificate, or an apprenticeship. Students in the program commit to a 5th year of high school in order to finish the associate degree and earn their high school diploma. This 5th year will consist of mostly, if not all, college courses at the college. The courses are funded by the school district, through the Post Secondary Dual Enrollment Act, which means a minimal cost to families for such things as basic materials for the classes, parking, etc. You can also access the Frequently Asked Questions, which will answer the most common questions. This is available to current eligible 10th graders, to begin in the fall . The GSDMC Family Information Night will take place this coming winter.

PROGRAM OFFERINGS

PROGRAM GOALS

  • Increase the number of students enrolling in college

  • Provide students with an opportunity to engage earlier in the college experience in a supportive setting that help them succeed while still meeting the requirements for a high school diploma

  • Students are on a faster pace to earn an associate’s and/or bachelor’s degree by earning two years of transferable credit while transitioning to college gradually

  • Reduce the financial burden of college on families:

    • Most expenses for tuition, college textbooks, and course/college fees to GSD eligible students

    • Students/families will likely need to spend only two years at their own expense to earn a bachelor’s degree

  • Expand the traditional view of high school

    • Increase student opportunities based on interests, talents, and abilities

    • Students can see the connection between their studies and their career goals
