Dear Parents, Staff, Students, and Community Members,
My name is Derek Bezeau and I am the principal of Downriver STEM at Weiss. Throughout my career I have had many experiences as an educator that have prepared me for this tremendous opportunity. As a classroom teacher, I taught in grades 3-5 with a focus on 21st century skills. I consistently strived to find innovative techniques to engage all my learners.
My interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) started before it was a recognized acronym. As a child, I love inquiry-based learning and always had a passion for science which is why I selected it as a major in college. I have a deep love for STEM and believe it is a vital component in preparing our children for the future.
On a personal note, I am married and have two daughters, both of whom attend Weiss as students. While I am not as active as I was a few years ago, I have run two half marathons and a full marathon. Lastly, and most unfortunately, I am a lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions (thanks, Dad!) which often leaves me disheartened on Sundays throughout the fall.
As a school administrator, I look forward to working with each and every one of you. I know there is a LOT we can learn from each other and I cannot wait to partner with you to help our children succeed. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me regarding any questions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Mr. Derek Bezeau
Principal
