School Safety
Downriver STEM @ Weiss is currently in the process of enhancing the way we respond to school emergencies. In the past we have practiced lockdown as a way of keeping students safe in the case of an emergency - such as an intruder entering the building. Over time we have determined that there are better ways to keep children safe if these types of situations arise. Through collaboration and guidance with our school liason officer, district crisis coordinator, and the Woodhaven Police Department we are working on a protocol called A.L.I.C.E. ALICE is an acronym which means Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. The ALICE protocol is designed to provide additional opportunities to increase the safety of those in a building.
